This list holds U.S. Department of Defense contract awards collected from USAspending.gov. Each row shows a single procurement — equipment, services, or R&D — by the awarding component, such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Defense Logistics Agency.
How to read it
- The Defense Department is not one buyerAwards are made by individual services and agencies. Two contracts in the same equipment area can differ in nature — development versus production, services versus goods — depending on who awarded them.
- Many large awards are ceilings, not spendVehicles such as indefinite-delivery contracts (IDVs) state a ceiling; the full amount is not necessarily used. Actual work accrues as individual task orders beneath it.
- Sensitive procurements are disclosed narrowlyFor national security reasons some awards publish limited detail about scope or counterparty. Totals can still be aggregated, but line-item detail is not always available.
FAQ
What is an IDV?
An indefinite-delivery vehicle — a contract that sets a ceiling without fixing quantities or timing. The stated amount is an upper bound; actual buys happen as orders within it.
Why does the same company appear so often?
Defense procurement runs long and across many product lines, so major contractors win many awards a year. It helps to read a single award value separately from the annual total.
